First off, let me just say… FINALLY. Amongst the flood of changes from the new Timeline to the (useless) Ticker, Facebook has given users a new practical feature: the ability to edit Facebook comments regardless of how long it has been posted. Keep in mind, users will still be able to see the full edit history of the post’s comment history.
Previously, you had a window of a few seconds after posting the comment to edit it. If you left it too late, all you could do to was to delete the comment and start again. Personally, I regularly post through the Facebook mobile app, so I’m always falling victim to my phone’s ‘let’s auto-correct your word with something that doesn’t make sense in this situation’ when commenting. So I’ve had to copy, delete, paste, edit, then post my comment again many times.
While this is a step in the right direction, it still falls short of the options available in Google + which allows you to also edit original posts. There’s also no word on whether comment editing will be available in Facebook’s embeddable comment widget for websites or mobile app.
This feature has been rolling out from Thursday and should be available to all users within the next couple of days.
